Abstract

The researchers aimed to measure the level of sports fanaticism in cheerleading among the students of the colleges of Al-Mustansiriya University for the academic year 2024/2025, and then compare the results between students of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences and some selected university colleges to identify the effect of academic specialization on the measured phenomenon.

The number of students examined was (500) from the students of these colleges with excluded the first-year students.

The researchers used the descriptive comparative research method to measure the phenomenon among the two groups of the research sample.

The researchers then began field survey procedures to measure the phenomenon from November 15, 2024 AD, until March 17, 2025.

During that period, the scale form designated to measure the phenomenon was distributed to the research sample, and the data was then dumped and processed statistically using the Mann-Whitney test for nonparametric comparisons, as the measurement results were not normally distributed whose values indicated insignificant statistical difference in the measurement results of the two groups when compared prompting the researchers to conclude that theoretical knowledge alone is insufficient to change behavior or attitudes toward sports fanaticism in colleges of physical education and sports sciences without practical application in their academic studies, represented by a number of lectures, workshops, and training courses.
