Abstract

This research aims to study the impact of engineering designs for sports stadiums on the phenomenon of rumination among football players. Rumination is a psychological condition characterized by repetitive negative thinking about past mistakes and situations, which negatively impacts concentration and performance. The researchers adopted a descriptive approach, and the sample included (200) players from Iraqi Premier League youth clubs for the 2024–2025 season. The players were divided into a construct sample (150 players) and an application sample (50 players). Two scales were developed by three researchers: one to measure the impact of engineering designs on sports facilities (32 items distributed across five domains), and the other to measure the level of rumination (40 items distributed across five domains). The results showed that the players' performance on both scales was average, with an inverse correlation between the quality of engineering designs and rumination. Improved design environments lead to a decrease in repetitive negative thinking among players. The study concluded with a recommendation to pay attention to the psychological preparation of players and to consider psychological factors when designing stadiums, as this plays a role in improving athletic performance and reducing mental stress.
