The Effect of the (PBL) Strategy in Developing Analytical Thinking in Football Among Students of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the effect of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) strategy on developing analytical thinking among students in football, and to compare the results between the group learning according to the PBL strategy and the group learning using the conventional method in analytical thinking. The researchers employed the experimental method due to its suitability for the nature of the study. The study population included third-year students at the College of Physical Education and Sport Sciences – University of Tikrit for the academic year 2025–2026, attending the morning study program, totaling 255 students, distributed across six sections (B, C, D, E, W, Z).

       The research sample was randomly selected (lottery method), consisting of 80 students: 20 students from section Z for the experimental group and 20 students from section W for the control group. The experimental group learned analytical thinking in football according to the PBL strategy, while the control group learned using the conventional method employed by the course instructor.

         After completing the experiment and statistically analyzing the data using SPSS, the researchers concluded that the PBL strategy contributed significantly to the development of analytical thinking in the experimental group compared to the control group and also enhanced their cognitive skills.
