Abstract

The researchers aimed to develop a psychological vulnerability scale for first-year students in physical education and sports science colleges, specifically in swimming, and to identify the degree of psychological vulnerability among these students. The researchers employed a descriptive survey methodology, deemed suitable for the nature of the study. The research sample consisted of 615 first-year students in physical education colleges. To achieve the research objectives, the researchers developed a psychological vulnerability scale, which in its final form comprised 24 items, including 4 indicator items. After administering the scale and using appropriate statistical methods to analyze the data, the researchers concluded that the psychological vulnerability scale they developed was effective. They also found that first-year swimming students exhibited a low degree of psychological vulnerability. Based on these findings, the researchers recommend that swimming instructors adopt progressive teaching methods (focusing on overcoming fear and buoyancy) due to their significant role in boosting students' self-confidence and reducing psychological vulnerability. Furthermore, they recommend that instructors of practical courses provide a supportive learning environment based on positive feedback and avoid blame and harsh criticism to maintain students' psychological well-being
